How to avoid identity theft?

1. Think before using your computer to purchase items. Watch for the safe site at the bottom of the screen before putting personal information into your computer. Keep your anti-virus software and anti-spyware updated at all times.

2. Never give out any personal information on the telephone to people you don’t know.

3. Don’t put your mail into your mailbox; take it to the post office. This maybe a little inconvenient, but well worth your extra time and energy.

4. Look over your credit card bills every month when they arrive to verify the purchases that are posted. If you don’t see the payments on the bill, call the credit card company and your bank to follow up on the payment.

5. Don’t carry your social security with you unless you must for a reason.

6. Remember to always take your receipt from the ATM machines. Don’t just throw them away; take the time to shred them.
Step7Report any lost or stolen checks from you checkbook. Store any canceled checks, and new checks in a safe place.
